Together

Past Works

I was selected to make a sculpture to commemorate the inaugural Alumni Awards for The Women’s College in Sydney University. The sculpture had to reflect the motto Together. I started with a circle. In native North American Lore the Circle had 4 quadrants; East = peace and light. South = warmth. West = rain. North = cold strength and endurance.

I split the circle and extended the top into a point representing higher learning. The front split represented the Fresher entering into the rich world of learning the College then passing out into the world beyond.

Formorii (pair)

Past Works

These were Sea Creatures in Irish mythology. They emerged from the waves to challenge two rulers The Firbolg and The Tuatha De Danann and rule Ireland till defeated by the Tuatha de Danaan. It is wondrous that in ancient times people had some sense of evolution and so we marvel at the ancient rocks of our coastline in this ancient continent and behold our watery ancestors emerge.

Gaia

Past Works

Gaiais the goddess of the Earth. I see this beautiful piece of Italian Alabaster as the encompassing folds of a loving mother, the firm stone of the earth from which she has emerged , the beauty of a goddess and feminine sensuality.I brought this Alabaster back from Italy on one of my carving trips. I looked at it for months before I could get the quality of form the stone was imploring.
